International Day of Sign Language 2024 (Bronx, NY)

The authors of the storybook app “Deaf Gain What” hosted a read aloud at St. Joseph’s School for the Deaf on September 23, the International Day of Sign Languages. The release of the bilingual storybook app on Deaf Gain developed by Gallaudet University was a great opportunity for families of deaf or hard of hearing children to meet the authors as well as staff and students at the school. Coffee, tea, and snacks were shared and a coloring activity was available too.
The author Elaine Gale, Associate Professor and Program Leader of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education at Hunter CUNY, also read the storybook app to the 3-5 year old students at St Joseph’s school in the morning and then to two groups of older students in the afternoon.
