Summer Picnic 2019

On the morning of August 3, Hands & Voices of New York hosted families of children with hearing loss on the playground at the Crossings Park in Colonie. Emilee Foster and Michele Swain have worked closely with these current families. It was also exciting for past families to be part of this event and watching how much these children have grown. It was a social opportunity for the children that Emilee and Michele serviced to see each other and for the families to connect and share experiences and get to know each other.

Many of these families are isolated and may not know any other families that have children with hearing loss, especially those with hearing aids or cochlear implants. It was a great opportunity for the families to connect and socialize and to share experiences about having a child who is deaf or hard of hearing. Some of the families attended the afternoon annual summer picnic on the South Pavilion that Hearing Loss Association of America – Albany Chapter (HLAA) in conjunction with Hands & Voices of New York hosted.

Over 60 people of all ages gathered to interact, enjoy, and provided supports to each other as needed. Drinks, snacks, potluck, and hotdogs cooked on the grill were delicious. A potluck lunch was enjoyed by all – despite the Impending thunderstorm.
